Description
A playful novelty dessert: vanilla ice cream shaped and coated to look just like fried chicken.
Ingredients
1 quart vanilla ice cream (or flavor of choice)
1 cup cornflakes or panko breadcrumbs
1 tablespoon brown sugar
2 tablespoons butter, melted
½ cup crumbled fried chicken skin, optional
Maple syrup or honey, for garnish, optional
Chocolate chips, optional, for a “bone” effect
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, crush the cornflakes or breadcrumbs into a fine texture.
- If using fried chicken skin, crumble it into small pieces and mix it in with the cornflakes.
- Add the brown sugar to the mixture for a hint of sweetness.
- Drizzle the melted butter over the mixture and toss to combine — this helps bind the crumbs for an even coating.
- Let the ice cream soften slightly at room temperature for about 5 minutes.
- Scoop the ice cream into medium-sized balls, or shape into drumstick shapes for authenticity.
- Insert a small piece of chocolate chip into one end of each piece to simulate a chicken bone, if using.
- Place the shaped ice cream on a parchment-lined tray and freeze for 1 to 2 hours, until firm.
- Remove the frozen shapes from the freezer and roll each piece in the prepared coating, pressing gently so it sticks on all sides.
- Return the coated pieces to the tray and freeze again for at least 30 minutes.
- Remove from the freezer just before serving. Drizzle with honey or maple syrup, or serve with a dipping sauce like caramel, if desired.
