Description
Tender, slow-cooked shredded beef piled onto toasted bread or buns with your favorite toppings — a classic, versatile sandwich.
Ingredients
3–4 pounds chuck roast or brisket
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 large onion, sliced
1 cup beef broth
1/2 cup barbecue sauce or tomato-based sauce
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
Bread or buns, for serving
Instructions
- Rub the beef with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
- In a slow cooker, layer the sliced onion and place the beef on top. Add the beef broth, barbecue sauce, and apple cider vinegar.
- Cover and cook on low for 8–10 hours, or on high for 4–6 hours, until the beef is fork-tender.
- Remove the beef and shred it with two forks, then mix it back into the sauce.
- Toast the bread or buns, layer with the pulled beef, and add your favorite toppings. Serve immediately.
Notes
Can also be made in the oven (covered, 275°F for 4–5 hours) or on the stovetop (simmered 3–4 hours). Great with brioche buns, ciabatta rolls, or pretzel buns, and toppings like coleslaw, pickles, or caramelized onions.
